D-01 - Getting Involved on a Commuter Campus

Whether required or optional, chapter events and involvement build community among members and add value to what would otherwise just be a line on their CV or resume. But getting and keeping students involved can be a challenge, uniquely so at a commuter campus. With no dorms and few evening classes or events outside of standard business hours, engaging students’ busy schedules is complicated by travel and limited time on campus. This chapter share presentation highlights the strategies employed by the Alpha Upsilon Phi chapter (UNG Gainesville) to get its members involved, regardless of their geographic location. From creating local service projects with on- and off-campus groups, partnering with a local coffee roaster for an innovative fundraising idea, and hosting a regional conference, these opportunities allow our members to get involved, even from a distance.
