Each fall, Missouri Southern State University Sigma Tau Delta partners with MSSU Department of International Studies to present a reading event that features authors and literature from a specific country or global region to introduce university participants and community members to diverse literary pieces. The Deltans at MSSU select different texts from the country or international region highlights in that year’s internationally themed semester that best capture the literary styles and genres of the country. We also try to choose literary pieces that are diverse in author gender, ethnicity, era of writing, and geographical location within the country along with a variety of genres. For example, for the Japanese semester in fall 2021, we included a graphic novel due to the popularity of manga in the Japanese literary sphere. We attempt to gather literature from diverse genres such as poetry, short stories, and longer works. This event is an opportunity for both readers and attendees to expand their knowledge of the literature from the country being studied, and this event could be adapted by other chapters to be relevant to their universities’ and departments’ programming or themes.
